Katie Peters BSc (Hons) MCSP SRP
Chartered sports physiotherapist and Women’s health physiotherapist
I qualified from Brunel University in 1995 and subsequently gained a wide range of experience in various major teaching hospitals in London, where I undertook extensive postgraduate manipulative training. I also worked as a team physio for a professional rugby team and national teams in the RFU. Soon after moving to Winchester in 2000 I left the NHS to work in the private sector and have since specialised in sports physiotherapy and women’s health physiotherapy. I have competed in a wide range of sports from an early age, from tennis, squash, lacrosse, hockey, to marathons, triathlons, and sailing dinghy world championships and have participated in many more. This personal involvement with sport combined with an expert knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics enables me to analyse and treat the real cause of the problem. I am also able to completely empathise with the frustration of injury and understand how vital it is to ensure a phased and speedy recovery with a management programme to prevent recurrence. Women’s health physiotherapy is another area I have focused on over the years. As many as 1 in 3 women will experience some kind of women’s health problem during their lifetime -physiotherapy has been proven to provide significant relief. I have a strong hands-on, patient focused approach to treatment. Although I have specialised areas, I also treat clients in all age groups from children through to the more mature population, with every day aches, pains and posture related problems. I believe in treating not only the symptom but also the cause of an injury or dysfunction, and correcting muscle imbalances rather than solely treating injured tissues. Treatment may include joint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue techniques, addressing imbalances and instability issues, specific exercise rehabilitation and acupuncture. I live just outside Winchester with my husband and 3 young children. Apart from enjoying running a busy household and my physiotherapy, I love running, biking, windsurfing and some yoga for my sanity! I am delighted to be joining the dynamic team at Winchester Spine centre. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are unsure or wish to discuss your complaint. Or ring one of our friendly reception staff on 01962 843242 to book a consultation to get you started on your road to recovery.
NICKY HODGKINSON BSc (Hons) MCSP SRP
Chartered Physiotherapist and Women’s Health Physiotherapist
I qualified as a physiotherapist (BSc Hons) from the University of the West of England in 1995 and initially worked in London teaching hospitals for over 10 years before moving to work in the NHS and private sectors in Hampshire. I specialise in the treatment of spinal problems and women’s health. I also have a broad knowledge covering the full spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders from sporting injuries to arthritic conditions and also post-operative rehabilitation. I work in a specialist role alongside a number of local consultant orthopaedic surgeons and pain consultants and I am familiar with their pre-operative and post-operative procedures. I have a passion for helping women who have developed problems as a result of pregnancy or post natal. My specialist skills in women’s health mean I am able to treat ante and post natal women for a variety of complaints including back pain, pelvic pain, coccyx pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. I teach both ante natal and postnatal classes and provide one-to-one active birthing sessions to prepare women and their partners for labour. I also treat women suffering with urinary and bowel incontinence, prolapses, vaginismus and pelvic pain which may be a new or longstanding problem. I enjoy assessing and treating patients who have challenging and complex symptoms and those who have sometimes tried other therapies which have not been successful. I live in Winchester with my husband and 3 young children and enjoy an active family life.
