Triggering a host of positive chemical responses in the brain that can result in long lasting feelings of relaxation, lowered stress, mental alertness and improved mood, massage stimulates increased production of the "feel good chemicals" Endorphins, Serotonin and Dopamine.Chronic and habitual stress can be easier to overcome in the presence of these chemical influences, improving your vitality and state of mind.A reduction in the levels of stress hormones Cortisol and Adrenaline allow your body to enter a relaxing rest and recovery mode.Managing stress this way has been reported in research to be an effective tool in the management of high blood pressure reducing risk of heart attack, kidney failure and stroke.

Remedial or Sports Massage Therapy

If you have muscle tension or chronic pain either remedial massage, sometimes known as Sports Massage Therapy, or Myofascial Therapy may be for you.Sports massage therapy will perhaps be a more familiar approach. Soothing rhythmic light or firm stroking movements, kneading, gliding and percussion of the muscles, passive or active stretching alongside recommendations for exercise. It is an effective treatment used for the relief of pain, swelling, muscle spasm and restricted movement.Myofascial Release massage is a specialised physical and manual therapy used for the effective treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue and fascial tension and restrictions.  The focus of this work is on the fascia, a connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Basically it’s the stuff that creates your posture. The therapist is trained to manipulate and distinguish how much pressure and movement to use, the direction of the stretch, and the duration of the stretch, incorporating feedback given by the physical and verbal responses of the client. This technique of stretching the fascia, directly or indirectly, allows the connective tissue fibres to reorganize and releases bonds between fascia, ligaments, muscles, and bones.  Fascia can stretch and distort to pull you out of shape. The therapy is like getting all the wrinkles in your body rolled out. Strangely comfortable! It is mainly applied with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion, and balancing the body.Your therapist will assess what may be causing your pain and where you need treatment. They’ll perform some tests to see exactly which tissues are giving you trouble and will tailor a treatment plan to suit. The treatment itself may involve deep tissue work for short periods of time and the prescription of some exercises, and the results are definitely worth it!The purpose of the practice of massage is to enhance the general health and wellbeing of the recipient. Massage does not include the diagnosis of a specific pathology, the prescription of drugs or controlled substances, or spinal manipulation, as these acts are outside of the scope of massage therapy practice.
