Healthy Eating in Winchester - Cookery Demonstration
Let Hannah Goodyear of Kitchen Queen Ltd. fill you with inspiration to get back in the kitchen after the Christmas feasting andreinvigorate your weekly household menus.
- Firstly she will talk about how to find easy ways to inject flavour into dishes that would otherwise be fairly bland.
- She’ll talk about using herbs, spices, homemade marinades and sauces to liven up dishes at home.
- Demonstrate 3-4 quick and easy dishes using some great marinades, easy sauces and strong flavoured ingredients as a base – plus some funky tips along the way. For example:Make a soup, literally throw in some random veggies – things that most people would have in their fridge – a carrot, half a pepper, an onion, a bit of squash, etc, then add some lentils, and leave this to simmer, at the end of the session demonstrating how to add different flavours to the soup by dividing it up and adding the different marinades that will be made throughout the session: Moroccan, tandoori and Thai – as a simple example of how to make dishes more exciting through the use of herbs and spices (I.e you can do this with a soup, stir-fry, a piece of baked fish or meat, casseroles/one-pots, etc).
- Tandoori marinade – learn how to use this to marinade prawns and chicken , griddle these, then make a quick and easy cucumber, mint & yoghurt raita dip (great for dipping crudités into too).
- Ginger, Honey & Soy marinade (stir fry sauce) – use this to marinade some chicken and salmon before grilling and serving alongside the thai broth below…
- Thai Paste – Hannah will demonstrate how this can be used not only as a marinade, but as a base for a healthy Thai Style Broth to which can be added some julienne courgettes and carrots (a great alternative to using noodles or pasta), red peppers, spring onions and edamame beans with fresh coriander. We’ll serve this with the soy, Ginger & honey marinated chicken or salmon above, as an example of how this could make a great main course as well as a healthy lunch or snack served on its own. We’ll also add a little of this marinade into a portion of the soup later on.
- Spanish Smoked Paprika, Lemon & Oregano-Marinated Chicken or Turkey served Grilled with Butterbean Mash and Stir Fried Peppers & Onions
- Moroccan style marinade – great marinade or rub for meat and fish; also great to throw into soups or stews. We’ll add a little of this marinade/spice mix into a portion of the soup later on, along with a few chickpeas perhaps.
- Hannah will then demonstrate a couple of great snack items: hummus (to serve with crudités) - and she'll make some plain, some garlic, some lemon and some red-pepper, to demonstrate how easy and tasty this can be.
Finally some raw (healthy) brownies to cater for our sweet tooth; with pecans, dates, cocoa powder and cacao nibsHave a taste of everything demonstrated and recipe cards will be provided for you to take home so that you can replicate the dishes.Tickets are £10 each for this special event (numbers limited to 20 people).Venue; Winchester Sports and Spine, Alison Way, Winchester, SO22 5DDDate; Tuesday 20th January 2015 6.45pm for 7pm
