Winchester chiropractor says, "strong men live longer"
This is the conclusion drawn from research published in the British Medical Journal in 2008. An American study followed almost 9000 men for nearly 20 years, their strength was measured by a single bench and leg press test and each was asked to perform a test to measure their lung and heart function. 503 of these men died during the study period and interestingly there were 50% more deaths in the weakest third of men in the study. This association between early death and low strength was still seen even after the researchers allowed for factors such as age, physial activity, smoking, alcohol intake, body mass index, baseline medical conditions and a family incidence of heart and lung disease. The conclusion that we can draw is that eliminating muscle weakness helps you to live longer. This is why as a chiropractor in Winchester I am always testing the muscles of my patients. Good muscle strength means good nervous system function and since your nervous system controls all the body's actions (both concious and subconcious) It is a good indicator of health.Where I find weak and inhibited muscles I go looking for the underlying cause of that weakness, quite often this means checking the impact of previous dental work. Have a look at this video from my friend and colleague Simon King. For the next month I shall be offering 20% off my standard treatment fees to patients specifically requesting a check up for the possible involvement of their dentistry in causing muscle weakness.
