Sports massage therapy in Winchester

Matt Barker - Sports Massage TherapistHi, I'm Matt Barker and I will be joining Mark and the team at Winchester Sports and spine providing sports and remedial massage.I am in my early 30's, an ex-firefighter, tree surgeon and head gardener who also likes to dabble with marathon and ultra distance running, mountain biking, diving, tennis, football and ju-jitsu...... So I know what aching muscles feel like!Through various injuries and postural problems picked up from all these daft activites I discovered sports massage therapy as a technique that both prevented injury and speeded up my recovery time allowing me to train harder. It also helped me correct the muscular imbalances which were contributing to my postural problems.I developed such a passion for anatomy and physiology and for fixing my own muscular problems that I decided to train with the London School of Sports Massage for a level 5 diploma, (if Carlsberg did massage courses....).I have been taught by some of the South's top physiotherapists and Olympic team sports massage therapists. The training also incorporated elements of sports psychology and sports nutrition as well as teaching advanced stretching , injury rehabilitation and remedial massage geared towards long term improvement of posture and injury prevention.I have successfully treated ex-international marathon runners, ultra-runners, tri-athletes, swimmers, horse riders, footballers, office workers, chefs, builders and emergency service personel. I am also helping the players of Winchester City football club.In joining Mark and the team at Winchester Sports and Spine I will be complimenting the other disciplines such as chiropractic, physiotherapy and podiatry in providing important soft tissue therapy not only to sports people but to anyone who suffers aches and pains brought on by daily repetative stresses and strains.Throughout the month of July I shall be offering half price, hour long consultations which will include a thorough discussion of your problem, including any relevant medical history, a postural assessment and some massage treatment. So give the clinic a call on 01962 843242 and come and see me, I'd love to help.Matt
